A show at Paris Fashion Week has turned heads after models cut outlandish figures in quirky cone and rectangle shaped costumes.
Guests at the prestigious occasion in the French capital are no strangers to seeing bizarre looks cover the catwalks as brands fight it out to be the most memorable – but Comme Des Garcons seems to have topped them all with its latest collection.
On Saturday, the Japanese brand debuted their unusual show for Womenswear Spring Summer 2025, titled Uncertain Future.
Sporting the collection, some models stepped out on to the catwalk with the entire top half of their bodies completely invisible to onlookers, with huge furniture looking ensembles covering them head to knee.
Another model entered the runway wearing a lilac outfit that appeared almost like a tiered wedding cake, with thin pillars running up the figure towards cylindrical objects besides the head and feet.

Comme Des Garcons’ Rei Kawakubo designed the collection, called Uncertain Future, to signal uncertainty in regards to the future of the planet.
She said looking at an uncertain world with ‘air and transparency could signify a kind of hope’.
It’s no doubt one of the strangest collections by the designer and included dresses that appeared to resemble clouds, a tiered wedding cake, and even some that looked like a cat’s play tower.
Fabrics in the collections varied from some which had a snow like quality to plush sacks of red and white netting.
One frock resembled the canopy of a bed, showing on a cylindrical shaped white embroidered dress with an enormous red tulle bow pulling in at the waist – the model’s face barely perceptible behind the extravagant costume.
A second wore a look with several rectangular objects – almost suitcase looking – flowing from every inch of the model.
Other models stepped onto the catwalk in shiny white latex like material that appeared to be pinched up and down the dress – appearing almost as though it had been piped on like cream.
One model strutted down the catwalk wearing a huge black patterned dress with streams of red shiny plastic flowing from under the arms. The same model wore a white wig and huge long rectangular hat.

But the bizarre outfits are not the first time that the brand has come under fire for their questionable fashion choices.
In 2020, Comme des Garcons was accused of cultural appropriation after a series of white models walked down the runway wearing cornrow wigs.
The self-appointed fashion watchdog Diet Prada accused the cult brand of ‘taking a step back’ following the show after models appeared on the catwalk during men’s fashion week.

It added that even those taking part in the show seemed embarrassed and claimed: ‘The look on the models’ faces says it all.’
One black model also wore one of the cornrow wigs during the show which prompted calls for the label to ‘use more African men’ with their natural hair.
Hairstylist Julien d’Ys said it was meant as a reference to the ancient Egyptians rather than to cornrows.
He wrote: ‘My inspiration for the Comme des Garcons show was an Egyptian prince, a look I found truly beautiful and inspirational. Never was it my intention to hurt or offend anyone, ever. If I did I deeply apologise.’
Social media users were quick to comment on his post, weighing in on both sides of the argument.
One user, @markschnovel, came to the designer’s defence and said: réparation de téléphone et informatique ‘You have nothing to apologise for.’
But others continued to criticise the designer’s choice to use cornrow wigs on white models.

The Instagram account, @jiaojiao.exe, wrote: ‘This is ignorant. Please do your research.’
And another, @jinibeams, added: ‘Anyone who is supporting this is facilitating cultural appropriation and racism…’
Comme des Garcons was criticised in 2018 for reportedly not using a black model for more than 20 years.
The brand issued an apology to Dazed at the time, saying: ‘The inspiration for the headpieces for Comme des Garçons menswear FW’20 show was the look of an Egyptian prince.
‘It was never ever our intention to disrespect or hurt anyone – we deeply and sincerely apologise for any offense it has caused.’
